2022 “Don’t Trash It” Campaign
The Furniture Ministry team is getting set up for one of the wonderful missions of the church—the time when we all come together to collect, sort, wash and bag linens from the annual Elon University “Don’t Trash It!” campaign. This campaign provides 100-150 linen sets, enough to meet the needs of our clients for a large portion of the year. Raye Sapp is again heading up our church-wide effort.
The collection runs from May 11-May 31. We will be picking up donated linens daily during that time from Elon.
The linens will be taken to the Garrison Building where volunteers will sort them into sets and place them in bags for church members to take home and wash. When they are returned, volunteers will package them into complete “beds-in-bags,” each of which will contain a mattress pad, sheet and pillowcase set, and blanket or comforter.
Volunteers are needed to help with sorting and bagging on these days:
May 13 — 9:30–12:00
May 16, 18, 20 — 9:00-12:00
May 23, 25, 27 — 9:00-12:00
June 1, 3 — 9:00–12;00
June 7, 8, 9, 10 — 9:00–12:00 To finish and move all to Furniture Ministry warehouse.
To Volunteer to pack and sort:
To Volunteer to wash:
Pick up and return after 8:30 service or after 11:00 service on following Sundays or any of the workdays May 15, May 22 and June 5. We would like all washed items returned by June 8.
Thanks for your help in this Wonderful ministry.

This unique First Presbyterian Ministry continues to bring vital assistance to our Alamance County brothers and sisters in Christ at their time of greatest need. In 2021 we assisted 125 families comprising 182 children. We need your help! We especially need dishes, flatware, pots and pans, and lamps. Donations can be brought to the warehouse on Mondays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. We are picking up larger donations on a selective basis, requesting that items be placed outside. Also, we need volunteers to handle the phone, sort and tag items in the warehouse, and to assist with pick-ups. Contact us at 336-212-2937 or email email@example.com. Thank you for your support!
Our mission is to provide good, useful furnishings to those in need, treating each client graciously, with Christian hospitality. Our service area is Alamance County.

SERVE BY BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
The First Presbyterian Furniture Ministry collects used furniture, beds, and kitchen items in good condition and distributes them to individuals and families who have experienced homelessness, eviction, domestic abuse, fire or insufficient income. These are items that most of us take for granted each day.
Our top priority is to ensure that all children have a clean and comfortable bed.
All clients are referred by social workers in our numerous Partner Agencies, such as
- Allied Churches,
- Department of Social Services,
- Alamance Burlington School System
- Women’s Resource Center
- The Red Cross
The ministry is entirely volunteer-run and depends on donations of time, goods, and monetary gifts. A group of volunteers works throughout each month to pick up and store donated items, to communicate with clients, and to assemble goods for clients to pick up. Occasional church-wide Saturday morning workdays are held to make deliveries and organize the warehouse. Volunteers are always needed! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 336- 212-2937.
