Each Sunday morning as part of the Lord’s Prayer, we pray, “…Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Praying this prayer is not simply mouthing words, it is boldly proclaiming that we want to be a part of making Jesus’ kingdom a living reality, here and now.
N.T. Wright says, “Thy Kingdom Come, they will be done, on earth as it is in heaven! We are praying, as Jesus was praying and acting, for the redemption of the world; for the radical defeat and uprooting of evil; and for heaven and earth to be married at last, for God to be all in all. And if we pray this way, we must of course be prepared to live this way.”
During September and October, we will have a worship series that will focus on what God’s kingdom on earth looks like. We will be focusing on the imaginative and surprising stories in the Gospel of Matthew that offer us a vision of God’s kingdom of righteousness, justice, and peace.
